Picked up this blue vinyl pressing of Explorer and I'm glad I did. Con Brio blends soul, psych-rock and R&B with real energy, and you can hear the road-tested confidence from all that touring behind Paradise. The layered production is a step forward from the raw retro sound, and Ziek McCarter's vocals carry it well. The blue vinyl itself looks great in person. It's not a flawless record, but for anyone into modern soul with a live-band feel, this one is worth spinning.
